What is Exoderil 1% Solution? Naftifine Antifungal Skin Treatment for Foot Fungus and Nail Infections

Exoderil 1% solution contains naftifine hydrochloride (10 mg per ml), an antifungal agent active against skin fungi, yeasts, moulds, and others. It is also active against a variety of bacterial infections that frequently occur alongside fungal infections. Exoderil 1% solution is used to treat fungal infections of the feet, particularly between the toes, the bottom of the foot (characterised by redness, swelling, and peeling or itchy blisters), and nails.

Before Using Exoderil 1% Solution

Do not use Exoderil if you are allergic to naftifine or any of the excipients. Exoderil 1% solution is for external use on skin only — avoid eye contact. Do not apply to open wounds, as the alcohol content can cause painful burns.

How to Use Exoderil 1% Solution

Apply Exoderil 1% solution to the affected areas once daily. Clean and dry the area thoroughly before applying. The solution can be applied directly from the vial by means of a dropper or on a piece of cotton.

Despite rapid improvement of symptoms (itching, redness), continue treatment for at least two weeks after complete resolution of symptoms to prevent recurrence. If no clinical improvement is observed within 4 weeks, consult your doctor.

For fungal nail infections, keep nails as short as possible and file their surfaces before and after treatment. Fungal nail infections require several months of treatment for the healthy nail to grow.

Hygiene Measures to Support Treatment

• Replace clothing in contact with affected areas daily, as microorganisms causing fungal infection may attach to it
• Avoid tight and poorly ventilated clothing (e.g. synthetic socks and tight shoes) on affected areas
• Dry affected areas thoroughly after washing; change towels daily
• If you have a fungal infection of the feet, do not walk barefoot in swimming pools or hotels, to prevent spreading infection to others and reinfection
• Do not visit saunas or steam baths until the fungal infection has completely cleared

Duration of Treatment

Continue treatment at the same dose for at least two weeks after removing the infection to prevent recurrence.

Paediatric Use

The safety and efficacy of naftifine in children and adolescents below 18 years have not been established; there are insufficient data available.

Pregnancy and Lactation

When properly applied, Exoderil is not expected to affect the foetus or newborn, as teratogenicity studies demonstrate no embryotoxic effect of naftifine. However, as a precautionary measure, it is advisable to avoid using Exoderil 1% solution during pregnancy and lactation.

Side Effects

Reported adverse reactions include a feeling of dryness, redness, and burning at the application site. These are reversible and usually do not require discontinuation of treatment.

Storage and Pack Contents

Do not store above 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Shelf life after first opening the container: 4 weeks. Do not use after the expiry date. Available in 10 ml or 20 ml solution for skin.
