What is Espumisan 40mg? Simethicone Capsules for Bloating, Gas and Colic Relief

Espumisan 40mg contains the active substance simethicone, which belongs to a group of medicines called gastrointestinal substances. Simethicone works by breaking down gas bubbles accumulated in the stomach and intestines, allowing the gases to be released naturally. Espumisan is approved for use in children aged 6 years and over, adolescents, and adults.

Active Ingredient

One capsule of Espumisan contains 40 mg of simethicone.

Espumisan Indications

• Symptomatic treatment of gas-related complaints in the stomach or intestines, such as flatulence, swelling, and feeling of fullness
• Preparation for imaging examinations of the stomach and intestines, such as X-ray and ultrasound

Espumisan Dosage

For symptomatic treatment of gas: Children from 6 years, adolescents, and adults: 2 capsules (equivalent to 80 mg simethicone) 3 to 4 times a day.

When preparing for an imaging examination:

• The day before the examination: 2 capsules 3 times a day (equivalent to 240 mg simethicone in total)
• The morning of the examination: 2 capsules (equivalent to 80 mg simethicone)

Espumisan is not recommended for children under 6 years and newborns. Other pharmaceutical forms are more suitable for this age group.

How to Take Espumisan

Take Espumisan during or after a meal and, if necessary, at bedtime. It may also be taken after surgery. Continue taking for as long as you have complaints.

Gas-related complaints can also be a sign of more serious stomach or intestinal problems. If you experience a sense of weight and fullness, belching, intestinal crunching, or swelling that persists or continues for a long time, see a doctor to check whether you have a condition requiring other treatment.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

No adverse effects are expected if Espumisan is taken during pregnancy and lactation, as the active substance simethicone does not pass from the stomach or intestine into the bloodstream. However, there are no clinical data on its use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Driving and Using Machines

Espumisan has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
