What is Zyrtec 10mg (Cetirizine Antihistamine Tablets for Hay Fever and Allergies)?

Zyrtec 10mg contains cetirizine, a member of the antihistamine group of medicines. It works by blocking the effects of histamine — which may be overproduced during allergic reactions — to relieve symptoms such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose, itchy or watery eyes, and skin rashes. It is suitable for adults and children over 6 years of age.

Zyrtec 10mg Indications

• Hay fever and seasonal allergic rhinitis
• Perennial allergic rhinitis — sneezing, runny or itchy nose
• Skin rashes including chronic nettle rash (idiopathic urticaria)

How Zyrtec 10mg Works

Cetirizine blocks the effects of histamine, which may be overproduced in allergic reactions. This alleviates unpleasant symptoms including itchy or watery eyes, nasal congestion, sneezing, and skin rashes. Zyrtec 10mg does not influence the immune response.

Directions for Use

Always take Zyrtec 10mg exactly as your doctor has told you. Take with or without food. Try to take at the same time each day. Swallow whole with water — do not crush or chew.

Warnings and Precautions

• Not suitable for children under 6 years of age
• Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, heart conditions, or liver problems before starting treatment
• Unless deemed necessary, Zyrtec 10mg is not advisable in pregnant women — discuss risks and benefits with your doctor
• Not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary — discuss with your doctor
• Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, as it may cause drowsiness
• Alcohol consumption is not recommended during treatment
• Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver disease
• Do not take if allergic to cetirizine or any other ingredient
• Tell your doctor if you have problems passing urine, epilepsy or risk of convulsion, or are scheduled for allergy testing
• Tell your doctor if you have rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption

Side Effects

Serious (seek urgent medical attention): allergic reactions including sudden wheeziness, difficulty breathing, rash, itchiness, fever, swollen throat, face, eyelids or lips (angiooedema), convulsions, thoughts about committing suicide, bruising or bleeding more easily than normal.

Common: somnolence (sleepiness), dizziness, headache, diarrhoea, nausea, dry mouth, fatigue, pharyngitis, cold-like nasal symptoms (in children only).

Rare: depression, hallucinations, aggression, confusion, sleeplessness, tachycardia, abnormal liver function test results, urticaria (hives), oedema, and weight increase.
