What is Tantum Verde and what is it used for?
The active ingredient of Tantum Verde benzydamine hydrochloride has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. After rapid absorption and local accumulation in the inflamed tissue, the symptoms soon subside. Tantum Verde is well tolerated locally and causes a targeted therapy of the inflammation symptoms and swallowing difficulties.
Applications
Symptomatic treatment of painful inflammations of the mouth and throat such as gingivitis, tonsillitis, inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa and larynx. Tantum Verde is therefore suitable for relieving the symptoms, especially of colds.
If you do not feel better or even worse after 3 days, consult your doctor.

Tantum Verde must not be used
– if you are allergic to benzydamine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Tantum Verde – Pastilles.
The use of this medicine, especially long-term use, may cause sensitisation. In this case, or if any of the side effects listed occur, the preparation should be temporarily discontinued and the attending doctor contacted.
If nausea or vomiting occur, the preparation should be temporarily discontinued.
Tantum Verde pastilles should be used with caution if you have a history of bronchial asthma, as bronchospasm may develop.
If the pain in the mouth and throat increases or there is no improvement within 3 days, you must contact the doctor or dentist treating you. First signs of side effects must also be reported to the doctor. This also applies if high doses of benzydamine hydrochloride are taken by mistake (e.g. by children).
If you are hypersensitive to salicylic acid or other anti-inflammatory painkillers, so-called NSAIDs, use with benzydamine hydrochloride is not recommended.
Long-term use of the medicine could affect the bacterial flora of the oral cavity.
Use Tantum Verde with other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or are thinking of taking/using any other medicines.
No interactions are known.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
If used as directed, it may be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
Trafficability and ability to operate machinery
Tantum Verde has no or negligible effect on trafficability and ability to operate machinery.
This medicinal product contains 3.5 mg aspartame per lozenge equivalent to 3.5 mg/3202 mg. Aspartame is a source of phenylalanine. It can be harmful if you have phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare congenital condition in which phenylalanine accumulates because the body cannot break it down properly.
Tantum Verde pastilles contain isomalt. Please only take Tantum Verde 3 mg Mint-Flavoured Pastilles after consulting your doctor if you are known to suffer from a sugar intolerance.

How should the medicine be taken?
How to use Tantum Verde?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet
or exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is:
Adults ,adolescents and children over 6 years:
3 – 4 times a day one lozenge.
For sucking. Let the lozenge dissolve slowly in the mouth.
The treatment must not last longer than 7 days.
Children between 6-11 years:
The medicine must only be used under adult supervision.
Children under 6 years of age:
Due to the pharmaceutical form, the medicinal product may only be used by children over 6 years of age. For children under 6 years of age, Tantum Verde Spray is available
elderly patients:
Specific recommendations for dosage in elderly patients are not available. Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the dosage given for adults applies.
Patients with impaired kidney or liver function:
The same dosage and method of use as for adults is recommended.
If you forget to use Tantum Verde 3 mg Pastilles – Mint-flavouredDo not use twice the amount if you have forgotten to take it before.
