What is Tabex? Cytisine 1.5mg Tablets to Stop Smoking

Tabex contains the active substance cytisine 1.5mg, which acts on the body of a smoker in a similar way to nicotine. Taking Tabex leads to gradual cessation of smoking without the unpleasant feelings and discomfort often associated with quitting. Tabex is used by people who are dependent on smoking (chronic tabacism) who want to quit.

Tabex Dosage Schedule

Take Tabex orally with sufficient fluid, following this schedule:

• Days 1–3: 1 tablet every 2 hours (6 times daily). Gradually reduce the number of cigarettes smoked. If the outcome is unsatisfactory, discontinue treatment and consider repeating after 2–3 months
• Days 4–12: 1 tablet every 2.5 hours (5 tablets daily)
• Days 13–16: 1 tablet every 3 hours (4 tablets daily)
• Days 17–20: 1 tablet every 5 hours (3 tablets daily)
• Days 21–25: 1–2 tablets daily

Final cessation of smoking should be achieved by day 5 after starting treatment. After completing the course, the patient must not allow a single cigarette.

Before You Take Tabex

Do not take Tabex if you have:

• Allergy (hypersensitivity) to cytisine or any other ingredient
• Recent myocardial infarction or stroke; unstable angina, cardiac arrhythmia, or atherosclerosis
• Pregnancy or are breast-feeding

Relative contraindications include: chromophilic adrenal tumours, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, and certain mental illnesses (some forms of schizophrenia).

Use with caution if you have ischaemic heart disease, heart failure, arterial hypertension, cerebrovascular diseases, blood vessel blockage, kidney or liver diseases, hyperthyroidism, ulcer, or diabetes. There is insufficient clinical experience for children under 18 and adults over 65 — consult a doctor before use.

Tell your doctor if you take physostigmine, galantamine, statins, blood pressure medicines, or tuberculosis medicines.

Possible Side Effects

Particularly at the beginning of treatment, the following side effects may occur: dry mouth, changes in taste and appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, headache, vertigo, palpitations, chest pain, accelerated heart rhythm, mild increases in blood pressure, drowsiness, insomnia, increased irritability, breathing difficulties, muscle pain, sweating, and weight loss.

Active Ingredient and Pack Contents

Each tablet contains cytisine 1.5mg. Other ingredients: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, talc, magnesium stearate, Opadry II brown. This medicine contains lactose — if you have an intolerance to some sugars, tell your doctor before starting Tabex therapy.

Store below 25°C in the original packaging, protected from light and moisture. Each box contains 100 tablets (20 tablets per blister, 5 blisters per box).
