What is Bromhexine? Active Ingredient and How It Works

Bromhexine tablets contain bromhexine hydrochloride, a mucolytic agent that works by thinning mucus and enhancing its secretion from the respiratory tract. By facilitating expectoration and reducing cough, Bromhexine helps relieve breathing difficulties caused by viscid or excessive mucus in the air passages.

Bromhexine Indications

Bromhexine is used in conditions where breathing is difficult due to excessive or viscid mucus, including:

• Acute bronchitis
• Chronic bronchitis
• Other acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs where there are disruptions in the excretion and transmission of mucus

Who Should Not Take Bromhexine?

Bromhexine is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it:

• If you are allergic to bromhexine or any other ingredient in this medicine
• If you are pregnant, likely to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
• If you have a rare hereditary disease incompatible with any of the excipients
• In children under 6 years of age

Tell your doctor if you or your child have had a stomach ulcer, if coughing difficulties last longer or are often repeated, or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Bromhexine Dosage

Take Bromhexine exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• Adults and children over 12 years: 1 tablet (8 mg) three times a day
• Children aged 6–12 years: half a tablet (4 mg) three times a day

At the beginning of treatment, the daily dose for adult patients may be increased to 48 mg.

Active Ingredient and Pack Contents

Each tablet contains 4 mg of bromhexine hydrochloride. The composition also contains lactose and sucrose. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, below 25°C and out of reach of children.
