What is Aspirin Cardio 100mg?
Aspirin Cardio 100mg contains acetylsalicylic acid, used to inhibit blood clotting (platelet aggregation). It is a cardiovascular medicine indicated in situations where reducing the risk of blood clots is clinically necessary.
Aspirin Cardio Indications
- Unstable angina
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Prevention of recurrent myocardial infarction
- After coronary artery surgery
- Prevention of transient ischaemic attacks and stroke
- Prevention of coronary artery thrombosis in patients with multiple risk factors
- Prevention of venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism following long-term limb splinting
Who Should Not Take Aspirin Cardio?
Do not take Aspirin Cardio if you:
- Are allergic to acetylsalicylic acid, other salicylates, or any other ingredient
- Have a history of asthma triggered by salicylates or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines
- Have an acute stomach or duodenal ulcer
- Have a bleeding disorder characterised by frequent bruising, bleeding from the nose and gums, or prolonged bleeding from superficial wounds
- Have severe kidney, liver, or heart problems
- Are taking methotrexate at a dosage of 15mg or more per week
- Are in the last trimester of pregnancy
Aspirin Cardio can provoke a gout attack. It is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age. Do not use to treat viral infections in children and adolescents without consulting your doctor — some viral diseases, especially influenza and chickenpox, carry a risk of Reye’s syndrome, a very rare but potentially life-threatening disorder requiring urgent medical attention. This risk may be increased with Aspirin Cardio. Persistent vomiting in these conditions may be a sign of Reye’s syndrome.
Dosage of Aspirin Cardio
- Acute myocardial infarction: 1–2 tablets daily
- Prophylaxis of transient cerebral ischaemic attacks and cerebral infarction: 1–3 tablets daily
- Prophylaxis of coronary artery thrombosis (high-risk patients): 1–2 tablets daily or 3 tablets every other day
- Prophylaxis of venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism after long-term limb insertion: 1–3 tablets daily
The entire daily dose may be taken at once. Take at least 30 minutes before a meal with plenty of water. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Aspirin Cardio.
